MADRID. The interminable row over the next America's Cup took a new turn on Wednesday with an offer from Oracle to drop its legal action on condition that Alinghi agree to hold the next edition under the same rules as the 2007 Cup.
The US team, backed by software tycoon Larry Ellison, has written to Alinghi with the deal which if accepted would see the next Cup staged as a mono-hull regatta open to all challengers as per the widely acclaimed competition won by Alinghi in Valencia in 2007.
Tom Ehman, spokesman for the Golden Gate Yacht Club representing Oracle, described the offer as "a simple solution enabling the America's Cup to get back on the rails".A row between the two boats erupted after they beat Team NZ.
