CHENNAI, INDIA. India's cricket chiefs and local police said Wednesday they expect England to arrive here next week for the Test series that was thrown in doubt due to the deadly Mumbai attacks.
Their optimism emerged after meeting Reg Dickason, the security consultant for the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), who arrived here earlier in the day for briefings.
Dickason's security assessment will determine if England return for the two-Test series, with the first Test due here from December 11 and the second in Mohali from December 19.
"Dickason met the Commissioner of Police and other officials at police headquarters in Chennai," said Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary N. Srinivasan. "Based on the discussions held and the clarifications given, BCCI expects no problem with the first Test being held in Chennai."
Chennai police commmissioner K. Radhakrishnan said he expected England to arrive here on December 8.
"He (Dickason) was satisfied with the steps we are taking to make this tour successful," Radhakrishnan said.
