PANAMA. The Attorney General announced that from June, the new first drugs prosecutor will be Javier Enrique Caraballo Salazar. He will replace prosecutor Jose Abel Almengor, who resigned on May 18.
Caraballo has been with the Attorney General’s Office and has vast experience handling drugs related cases in different parts of the country such as Cocle, Veraguas, Herrera, Colon and Kuna Yala.
The new drugs prosecutor will have the task of preparing the cases against the alleged Colombian scammer, and money launderer David Murcia and his associate Ernesto Chong.
Almengor’s resignation came after he was about to face disciplinary proceeding for delaying the injunction to stop Chong leaving the country caused a lot of speculation.
The Drugs Prosecution Office is in charge of crimes such as drug trafficking and money laundering.
